U2 - Luminous Times (Hold On To Love)

"I've always loved this song and it's a song that should've been
on The Joshua Tree, but the lads didn't have time to 'finish' it and
eventually released an unfinished version as a b-side (Eno never had
the time to remix it).

Luminous Times is a haunting song. A dark
love song and I was aiming to capture that 'feeling' in my video. So
the video is in black and white, for that reason, and uses footage from
RAH and Joshua era pictures in its composition. I purposely used an
elongated aspect which I thought added to the 'twisted' nature of the
song and I also slowed down the footage to try and create the right
emotional feeling.

The reason I didn't go for a fully lip-synced
song is basically because it didn't suit the mood of the track and I
wanted a video that complimented the song's darkness. I have synced
cymbals crashing or guitar chords at times because they aided the
video's momentum.

My favourite lyric from this song sums it up "I love you cause I need to
Not because I need you".
