Bossuet célèbre la grandeur des pyramides d'Egypte, "qui triomphent du temps et des Barbares".

Puis d'une phrase il balaie cette puissance:

"Mais quelque effort que fassent les hommes, leur néant paraît partout. Ces pyramides étaient des tombeaux."
